Sir Gurudas Mahavidyalaya offers all three common streams namely B.Com. B.A., B.Sc. Additionally students of the college can undergo computer training also.

College Hours

 

College remains open and classes held in normal day time. (Usually from 10.00 AM to 5.00 PM)

Information regarding percentage of attendance and condition for its shortage for Degree Examination applies.

In order to be eligible for being sent up for Univesity examination a student must fulfil the provision of Calcutta Univesity Regulation regarding attendance of lectures.

Computer classes may be held outside the College hours at the morning or at the evening.

Academic Discipline

Attendance in the Class as per university rules is mandatory. If a student is found absent from the class continously for 1 month without prior permission, his/her name is strucked off the rolls without any intimation.

In addition to performance in the examination, percentage of attendance in the class is a criteria for promotion to next higher class or at the time of sending up for final examination.

Students should not loiter or indulge in any noisy or disorderly conduct any where in the College premises. During teaching hours, nobody is allowed to come-in or go out without valid reason.

If any period goes off, students are advised to avail the facility of reading room attached to the library or consult their academic problems with the available teachers or visit the common room or stay at the class room. In any case they must not disturb the other classes or the office in any way.

Our LIBRARY is engaged  to cater towards the demand of the evolving education system, to build a resource center enabling a positive thrust for multidimensional development of the students and the college at large.

Our library remains open from10.00am to 5.00pm on all working days and 10.00 am to 1.30pm. on Saturdays.
Lending facilities: At a time three books for Honours  and two books for General course against the library lending card.
Reading facilities: At a time five books for Honours and three books for General course against the library reference card.
Internet access facility: Against computer card.
 
 OUR RESOURCE
Library maintains a rich collection of books on Commerce including its varied dimensions as well as on the ongoing streams like Bengali, English, Mathematics, Economics, History, Education, Political Science,. Computer science.
 Physics, Sanskrit, Communicative English are the subjects under the purview for enhancement of the collection.
Under the XIth plan of UGC our library maintains a collection of books on competitive exams for entry - into - services.
The process of automation is underway.
Reference books including bilingual, multilingual dictionaries serve our students.
  
  COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
Ours is a precise and up-to-date collection after thorough market survey by the faculty and the librarian .We are on the way to  build up a collection of academic journals.

 

 CLASSIFICATION OF BOOKS ACCORDING TO DDC 22nd EDITION.

 OUR INITIATIVE:

  • Development of students’ habit of reading and borrowing books.
  • Providing information to perform self learning, discussion hours with the faculties concerned within the library with the help of the library resources.
  • To maintain a student-book ratio  as per demand.
  • Display of new arrivals so that the students are introduced to the books  purchased by the library.
  • Special attention to financially challenged students of all disciplines.  
  • Providing internet browsing facility to the students,restricted to websites of academic discipline and under vigilance of the faculty concerned.

CURRENT AWARENESS SERVICE

  • Newspaper reading facility,specially the employment and career oriented ones are provided within the library.
  • Inform the students regarding job advertisements through the academic departments.
  • Knowledge on current affairs are provided through the library by organizing quiz hours among the interested students and intellectual contributions of the students.

  1. Concession and Financial Assistance for poor, meritorious and regular students of the college are provided as follows:-

 

Merit Scholarship


Full concession in Tuition –Fee, Computer fees and all kinds of payments to the college plus books worth Rs.1000/-. Minimum marks required at the previous examination 60%. No of scholarship -10.

 

Tuition Fee Concession


Full or half in Tuition Fees is granted on the basis of recommendation of the concerned committee.

 

Students’ Aid Fund


Financial aid is granted only in genuine need of the student concerned on the basis of recommendation of concerned committee.


 

  1. UGC sponsored stipend.
  2. UGC sponsored Remedial Coaching.
  3. UGC sponsored free coaching for competitive examination (entry in Govt. service).
  4. Free training on Computer Hardware and Networking.
  5. Free access to computers is provided to all categories of students of BA and B.Com. (both Hons. and Genl.) 1st yr., 2nd yr. and 3rd yr. Only B.Com. 2nd year students are to pay computer fees of Rs.100 p.m. A separate computer laboratory card is issued to all the students of the college. This is in addition to Library Lending and Reference Card.

Future Planning

 

  • Construction of 3rd floor of college building for a built up are of 6000 sq. ft.
  • Creation of digital class room.
  • New Subjects:- Extension of affiliation upto Honours in Mathematics, Physics, Geography and Sanskrit and General Course:- Chemistry, Electronics
  • 3-storied new annex building on the southern side of the college.
  • Computer course in DTP and FA.

 

 

Suggestion & Complaint

 

There is a Grievance Redressal cell in the college. Students, their Guardians or any other person having any genuine grievance are welcome to submit his/her complain to the principal for quick and satisfactory redressal. constructive and innovative suggestions are also invited.

Students are advised not to bring Bi-Cycle. Motor-Cycle or any other valuables in the college. However if anybody brings any such articles, College shall not be responsible for loss or damage of the same.
